Barbara
started playing music and writing her own songs at a young age. She
spent 15 years performing solo and in top40 rock n roll bands. Her
primary instruments are acoustic and electric guitar, native american
flute and midi synthesizer. In 1988 she started Sandpiper
Productions
in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, specializing in songwriter
demos and small projects. Barbara started playing Native American flute
in 1994 after hearing music performed by R. Carlos Nakai and Spotted
Eagle. A strong personal journey led Barbara to her first CD project
and release in 2000, All Must Dance, a message about balance and
harmony. Barbara presently lives in Montana and continues to write,
produce and record. She owns a production company and publishing
company and writes, records and produces all of her music.

Barbara Champlin Musical Biography
Born in Providence, Rhode Island
Barbara started playing harmonica with her
grandmother, Nana at age 4/5
She started playing guitar at age 9
And started writing songs at age 10
Barbara started performing in public with
her first singing group Pink Velvet at age 12
And started performing solo at
age 16 at college pubs and local pubs
In 1975 she relocated to Sonoma County,
California and performed solo
at clubs, dinner houses and social functions. Sharing the bill
sometimes with the late folk singer, Kate Wolf.
In 1977 Barbara started Brightridge Music
Publishing (BMI)
In 1978 she spent some time at a studio
then called Wally Heider's in San Francisco recording original songs.
In 1979 Barbara moved to L.A. and
concentrated on writing and recording. She
did some production work at Smoketree Ranch, a recording studio in the
valley and had the opportunity to work with Doug Ingle of Iron
Butterfly in the recording studio.
After returning to Northern California in
1980 she played in various
Top 40 rock ‘n roll bands performing primarily in Northern
California
at nightclubs, bars and showcasing her original material.
In 1986 Barbara stopped performing
publicly, relocated to Marin County,
California and focused on writing, producing and recording her original
material. In 1989 she opened Sandpiper Productions and rented a space
in
San Rafael, California. Barbara specialized in recording songwriter
demos and
small projects such as the audio newsletter for Guide Dogs For The
Blind in Northern California, music for radio ads, and music for
healing arts projects.
From that time to the mid 90's Barbara also
had
the opportunity to meet
songwriters and performers in the music industry such as Andre Pesis,
Alex Call, John McFee, Clarence Clemons, Santana, Starship, Greg Allman
and others. In 1994 after hearing R. Carlos Nakai and Spotted Eagle she
started playing Native American Flute. In 2000 Barbara finished
recording her 1st CD All Must Dance an instrumental CD with Native
American Flutes,
drums, rattles and other percussion instruments, the CD is used by many
in the healing arts and medical community and also for relaxation and
back ground music.
